Hitler & Stalin: a secret relationship – part 2

Operation Barbarossa, the invasion of the USSR, launched by Hitler on the night of June 22nd, 1941, takes Stalin unawares. A clash is now inevitable. After the battle of Stalingrad and Kursk, Hitler looks at his former ally differently, the peasant he has always despised : “Stalin is one of the greatest men alive,” he confides. Goebbels notes in his diary: “The Führer has deep respect for Stalin whom he considers a true genius of the Asiatic people. He sees him as his only serious opponent.”
